Zambia to host the 1st Africa Forum on Private Sector Inclusive Green Growth and Job Creation

Employment, Labour and Commerce ministers from Finland and Zambia together with over 120 policy makers and implementers, chief executive officers, senior managers and officials from private, public and civil society entities, employer and worker organisations, entrepreneurs, creative thinkers, innovators, academics and researchers from different countries from more than 25 countries in Africa and elsewhere will from September 6 - 8, 2017 gather at Avani Hotel in Livingstone to discuss policy and actions for promoting inclusive green growth and the creation of decent green jobs.

The Zambia Green Jobs Programme (ZGJP), the Government of Zambia and the Government of Finland, in collaboration with the International Training Centre of the ILO and the ILO’s Green Centenary Initiative are pleased to announce the upcoming Africa Forum on Private Sector Inclusive Green Growth and Job Creation that will take place on 6 – 8 September 2017 in Livingstone, Zambia.

Zambia Green Jobs Programme Annual Impact Report - 2015

At the end of 2015, the Zambia Green Jobs Programme supported the creation of 2,660 jobs, as well as the quality improvement of 2,018 green and decent jobs existing in micro, small and medium-sized enterprises. In addition, the programme has benefitted more than 6, 667 enterprises, workers and their representatives. The report presents in detail these results and other results and how they were achieved.

For the women in the Kalulushi compound in the Copperbelt Province, building their own houses with green technologies wasn't enough. Like most people in Zambia's rural areas, they are off the grid. Without electricity, families must either spend hours in the dark or use dangerous, expensive alternatives such as kerosene, candles and charcoal. As part of the Zambia Green Jobs Programme, Emmery Matongo, Georgina Kunda and a few others were trained in solar panel assembly and installation. Not only this changed the daily lives of all villagers, it also opened new livelihood prospects for women. (Closed Captions available)
